PERFORMING ARTS
An amateur magician performing
Many hobbies involve performing by the hobbyist, such as singing, acting, juggling (a skill involving moving objects for entertainment or sport), magic, dancing and other performing arts.CREATIVE HOBBIES
Some hobbies result in an end product. Examples of this would be woodworking (the process of building, making or carving something using wood), photography, moviemaking, jewelry making, software projects such as Photoshopping and home music or video production, making bracelets, artistic projects (such as drawing, painting, etc.), creating models made of card or paper called papercraft up to higher end projects like building or restoring a car, such as a Jowett or building a computer from scratch.COOKING
Cooking requires applying heat to a food which usually, though not always, chemically transforms it, thus changing its flavor, texture, appearance, and nutritional properties. It encompasses a vast range of methods and tools and may be used to improve the digestibility of food. It may require the selection, measurement and combining of ingredients in an ordered procedure in an effort to achieve the desired result. Constraints on success include the ambient conditions, tools and the skill of the individual cook.GARDENING
Residential gardening most often takes place in or about a residence, in a space referred to as the garden. Although a garden typically is located on the land near a residence, it may also be located in a roof, in an atrium, on a balcony, in a windowbox, or on a patio or vivarium.Gardening also takes place in non-residential green areas, such as parks, public or semi-public gardens (botanical gardens or zoological gardens), amusement and theme parks, along transportation corridors, and around tourist attractions and hotels. In these situations, a staff of gardeners or groundskeepers maintains the gardens.
FISHKEEPING
This hobby can be broadly divided into three specific disciplines, freshwater, brackish, and marine (also called saltwater) fishkeeping.
Small pet stores often selling a variety of freshwater fish for Freshwater fishkeeping. While most freshwater aquaria are set up as community tanks containing a variety of peaceful species, many aquarists (people who keep aquariums) keep single-species aquaria with a view to breeding.SPORTS
People who enjoy playing sports may be amateur athletes who play recreationally. To begin with, playing for entertainment seems like a waste of money since hedonism is not a base need; but that is wrong. Hobbies keep us on the move and make us forget about worries and boredom, and we certainly get too much of that nowadays. Stamp collecting is one of the most common hobbies. There are still many people today who collect stamps, although technology has had an impact. Emails can be sent instantly and freely around the world; consequently, people are not buying stamps like they used to to send letters. That in turn means that fewer children are becoming interested in the hobby. However, rare stamps are still in demand, and probably will always be, but fifty years ago the number of collectors was much higher. It seems that stamp collecting as a hobby of millions of young people has had its day. Another hobby that has changed because of technology is building models. Young people still show off these models but the nature of them has changed. In contrast, modern models have all kinds of electronic and computerized parts, in some cases making them more like robots than traditional models. Of course, we cannot ignore computers when we talk about free time. Computers have had a huge impact on leisure since they were invented in the middle of the 20th century. At first, they were seen as strange machines used by big businesses. Gradually, in spite of this, the computer has become a part of almost every home, where it provides entertainment and a whole set of new hobbies that people fifty years ago would have thought were very weird. Today’s teenagers use their computers for playing computer games, running websites, communicating with friends around the world-all hobbies that were impossible quite recently. Computers have changed hobbies in other ways too. These days, no matter what hobby you are interested in, you will almost certainly find a huge amount of information on it on the internet. On the contrary, young people in the past had to rely on people they knew, or perhaps the local library, to learn about their hobby. Today’s teenagers are instantly in touch with online clubs that tell them all they need to know. People have produced WebPages on almost every hobby which can be thought of. Advice can be get from experts and it is easy to buy equipment to take your hobby to the next level. Taking up a new hobby, or developing one one’s already has, has never been easier or more fun. Other hobbies are the outdoor pursuits. The increased accessibility of outdoor pursuits resources has been the source of some negative publicity over the years also, with complaints of destroying the landscape.
On the other hand, Stamp Collecting in the past used to be a very popular hobby. It seems that people have been collecting valuable things since ancient times. Instead, most people in the past were too busy and too poor to buy expensive works of art or coins. When stamps appeared in the 19th century, they were cheap and colorful and children started to keep them. By the middle of the 20th century, collecting stamps was a popular pastime for both children and adults, with some stamps worth a large amount of money.-for more than most children could afford. In the 1950s and 60s, generations of young boys and girls built plastic models of planes, boats and cars. They proudly displayed them in their bedrooms or wherever else their parents would let them. Models in the past were made of wood or plastic, with few moving parts. This has gradually changed. Many years ago, the Romans built models of enemy fortifications, coastal defense lines, and other geographic fixtures to plan battles. In the past, children used to play outdoor games, for example cops and robbers. Nowadays, they also play these games, but not as much as, for example, video games. Reading, such as reading books, magazines, comics or newspapers is a common hobby and one that has had its origin many hundred years ago. Despite, nowadays children do not read much, as they spend their time with technological machines, such as the computer and television.
In conclusion, todays and years ago hobbies’ are very different. Today’s frugal lifestyle made many people forget what enjoying and living your life means. Hobbies seem to have become less important as time has passed. Engaging in a hobby can lead to acquiring substantial skill, knowledge and experience. Despite of this, personal fulfillment is the aim; as people enjoy participating in competitive hobbies, for example athletics, hockey and tennis. Technology has had a huge impact on today’s hobbies and the way people have to spend their free time.
